my music background...
born in the US. as a little 2 year old I listend to german folk music. my mom kept on playing these wonderful old records of "the schaumburger maerchensaenger" (german choir) and other classical records from j. sebastian bach. my family found me lying on the floor for ages, right next to the speakers (oh, that’s where I got my profound deafness from…). there was no other place I wanted to be!
Outside our four walls I was exposed to country- and jazz music, of course. I don’t know if I ever really got into it or if it was more my father loving the contrast, mixing both country and jazz.. he always wanted to combine them. whilst riding along the potomac river.. in his beloved austin healey, we lived our music companionship, where he’d uncover these two styles and the ones that where playing in a washington DC radio channel; the sounds of the 70’s.
In any case I have learned to know and cherish all these different styles in my early years. then.. came the opera time. I loved the idea of singing and acting at the same time.. later in life (whilst studying in london, GB at the trinity college of music, to become an opera singer) I had to discover that I was useless in acting (so said sean connery jokingly when I took part in an acting course). left over was my voice..
trying to focus on opera music (annoying my flat-mates every morning by singing my ascending scales - oh oh), I sneakily bought rock- and punk music records. yes, the 80’s and 90’s really shook me up... and again polished my music views! then came new york city in 1992. the spirit and liberty of the new york’n got me back into jazz and deepest soul music .. but I was still becoming an opera singer!
I couldn’t really find enough passion for the opera... after my final exams I stood there with all these music styles in my spirit, trying to mingle each of them together
I founded a band in germany called melodic. we were 4 singers, all friends, singing a-cappella beauties of all genres, arranged by myself. our success was as great as it get’s, so we took off after some record labels (bmg, edel, virgin) and other promotion company (universum, hamburg) approached us to "mainframe" our group. yes, we fluttered away into mistaken directions. shortly later I separated from it all… we still remain friends
barcelona, spain - my new home in 2001, and still! of course - spanish guitar tunes & flamenco music gave me that passion. the chilling vibes of the city and its people made me discover electronic- and independent ambient music
I breathe in the mediterranean flair, everyday and here I uncover myself and my own music style. it is all the music I have breathed in – combined into one tune. this one is honest and melodious |
